Lake Montebello: 10-8-11
Thursday Dick called me and suggested driving up to Codorus this weekend. I didn’t have that much time to commit to disc, so I suggested we check out the new course at Lake Montebello in Baltimore. His reply…
“Isn’t that in a bad part of town?”
So after running some errands Saturday morning I ventured into the city solo. I got trapped in the homecoming traffic at Morgan State and took a scenic detour, i.e. got semi-lost, but eventually found the lake.

It’s usually fairly easy to find a large body of water in a city. Of course it’s one way traffic around the lake and naturally I was going the wrong way, but one of the plethora of ladies jogging around the lake pointed this out to me.
Then it was a matter of finding the first tee. Fortunately there were clues:

Which lead me to here:

Which lead me to…

It’s like a trail of breadcrumbs. The tees are non existent. There are two surveyor flags where the discers have started to wear the grass away. Some more permanent posts/tees would be nice. There was a guy and his non-playing lady on #2 when I started. It was his first time also, but he scouted the course out ahead of me. I probably would have been out there a lot longer without him running point.
The course is rather compact and similar to Druid Hill. #1 has a goalpost mando you have to get through. After four holes I was +3 according to the pars listed on the tee signs. A combination of par 3′s and 4′s make up the course. To be fair on #4 I ended up holing out on #9′s basket as the baskets are near each other. At hole #6 you get out of the “woods” and into the open:

I missed deuce putts on #7 and #9. I did finally shave a throw on #17 to end the round +2. The course isn’t laid out around the lake but loops back around itself on one side. The roads and fences are OB. As seen here by some victims disc:

The worse part is after you finish #18 you have to march back to where you parked at #1. It’s about a quarter mile. During that hike I think I discovered another reason Dick didn’t want to play the course:

Let’s get an actual workout in during our round! You can watch the ladies jog by while trying to impress them. However this may scare some of the ladies away:

On #18 I found a DX Stingray belonging to “Jenny”. I texted her and will get the disc back to her the next time I’m at the lake. She was very grateful. I said no problem, and declined her autograph request.
In the city…
